A Book to Read

I know we all don’t have hours to spend reading, though I bet many of us do. The places I would go…all in a text. It’d be amazing. But after seeing the Instagram buzz about The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up  I was intrigued and scooped it up on a trip to Costco. Somehow after picking it up, I didn’t put it down and I read the whole thing in a night! That night I couldn’t sleep, I was so excited, I mentally started making lists of things that meant something to me and things I could get rid of, things I knew I had barely ever touched and things I didn’t need anymore.

I woke exited, we didn’t exactly follow the instructions. We had tackled the clothes months ago, but still hadn’t gained any space back. Plus living in a studio it’s a little hard to lay out ever photo you own and purge through them. So we started in the kitchen, went through the cabinets and whittled down the pans to the one we really use. Then so on and so on we went through the cabinets, the shelves, the books, those weird little knick knacks you pick up at events and are cool in the moment but then you get them home and you wonder what the hell to do with them? Trash! They all went in the trash! I didn’t need tons of wristbands from old events, hats from promo gigs I worked or bottles that were useless other than the cool packaging on them. Gone.

Our apartment has a very wide closet that is completely useless for anything other than catching everything. If we didn’t know if we wanted to hold onto something or what to do with it. Into the closet it went. But finally after two years, I saw the floor again. The bikes now reside neatly inside, the luggage lovely stacked, everything easily reachable for a reference book or a board game.

The book is an eye opener, Marie Kondo really illustrates that it’s not about getting rid of things you don’t use, it’s about keeping only the things that spark you joy. Pick up a copy, devour it and straighten up your home and your life.

How to Follow the Breadcrumbs

I always find it intriguing how the universe gently pushes us in a certain direction. Last year I hit a low spot and instead of sinking lower I found magical blogs, meditation, Gabby Bernstein’s Spirit Junkie course and found a way to take better care of myself mentally and physically. I started meditating and practicing yoga on a daily basis, I started eating cleaner meals and found a holistic way to help heal my mind. I visited a Reiki course and saw a hypotheses. I had begun to find inner peace.

But like all things, everyone can loose their footing, they don’t practice for a day and then it’s two days, then it’s a week. Then I get an email saying that Gabby is teaching a kundalini yoga class at our local yoga studio. Thank you universe. I sign up, I recenter and get back into practice.

I end up having to travel and on my lay over find myself browsing the airport terminal book store. The book literally jumps off the shelf at me, May Cause Miracles. There it is again to delve deeper into my practice. I nod to the universe, telling it I need to finish the other two books I’m reading but it’s on my list.

This morning I remind myself to practice gratitude and I shuffle my cards. I love the Wild Unknown deck. Four of Swords. Damn.

Stillness, mental power. Though threatening swords loom above, the lambs sits in stillness and without fear. The four of swords says its time to look inward and find the mental power to cope with the pressures. It’s important to rest. Seek meditation or find literature that focuses on way ways to quiet the mind. Take this time to recuperate and move inward before those swords strike. -The Wild Unknown Tarot Guidebook by Kim Krans.

As I write this letting the explanation of the card sink in, I giggle could I have gotten a bigger sign to rebalance? Start meditating? Buy Gabby’s book? Oh yea, then I read Gala’s blog about the upcoming super moon! Check it out yourself for a little advice on what to expect and how to prepare. Because I know I am, I’m off for a poster board to lay out my plans and tackle them.

Bring. It. On.

Happy Valentine’s Day

With love floating along in the air it’s a great idea to grab hold onto it. Take a moment to pause and reflect on yourself before heading out to have an amazing date with your loved one. After all, you can not accept or give love if you are not truly loving yourself first.Today write yourself a mission statement to celebrate yourself, center yourself and honor yourself.

A personal mission statement is very similar to one of a company’s, it clearly illustrates the questions of; Why do you exist? What purpose do you serve? What do you believe in? What are your core values? How do you contribute to the world? What defines success for you?

Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire

If mission statement sounds too big then just call it a statement of intent! It also doesn’t need to completed today, it’s meant to grow and evolve with you. So it might take a day, a week, the rest of the month to grow to its full size. Don’t worry!

How to Start: Brew yourself your morning cup of alertness, grab some gel pens and paper and get comfortable. Below I’ve listed some questions but they’re just ideas to get the juices flowing, take what you will and leave what you don’t want. There are no rules here.

💖 What are my values? 💖 When am I happiest? 💖 What is your role in life? Are you happy with it? 💖 What do you want out of life? 💖 What do I love in my personal life? 💖 I would be happy if… 💖 If I knew I would not fail I would be doing… 💖 How do you plan to grow? 💖 What do you love most about yourself? 💖 What rules do you live by? 💖 What rules do you want to live by? 💖What do you believe in? 💖 What defines success for you? 💖 What goals do you want to achieve? 💖 What are things you would get rid of? 💖 What would you change? 💖 What do I love to do at work? 💖 What do I like to do in my personal life? 💖 What are my natural gifts/talents? 💖 My life’s journey is…💖

Just let your mind wander and scribble your ideas and thoughts down. Jot your favorite inspirational quotes along the side. Add glitter. When you’ve got your ideas across the pages, take a step back. Is there one idea that’s screaming out? Pick out key phases you like and cross out what you don’t. Keep going until you feel you’ve reached the end! Then pop some champagne and make a clean version of it you can see daily!

Need some help? Head over to Franklin Covey and fill out their prompted version. Live by the result or edit it down to fit you. Here’s what mine came up with:

💖 I am at my best when I get a good nights sleep, drink coffee, feel loved and meditate 💖
I will try to prevent times when I have a bad day, when things don’t go as planned and I lay in bed sad 💖 I will enjoy my work by finding employment where I can laugh, feel productive, and make money 💖 I will find enjoyment in my personal life through yoga, kissing, cuddling, hiking, feeling the sunshine, eating doughnuts, laughing, going on adventures, feeling  giddy, being productive 💖 I can do anything I set my mind to. I will spend all day in a relaxed state of mind; yoga, meditate, eat well, live by the ocean, sketch, sew and design all day 💖 My life’s journey is live creatively, to be happy, to feel loved, to feel at peace with life. My life’s journey is for me, to succeed and to live happily ever after 💖 I will be a person who has lived a full and exciting life, who didn’t do things by the book and blink and realize fifty years had gone by. That succeed in my dreams and loved with all my heart 💖
Not too shabby and gives me something to edit, embellish and work with.
Your mission statement will become a guide to live your life by, give you perspective and help you decide if you should say yes or no to opportunities that come your way. It’s a perfect way to help streamline your life and live truly and centered.

“To come to be you must have a vision of Being, a Dream, a Purpose, a Principle. You will become what your vision is.” -Peter Nivio Zarleng.

But First Coffee

I can’t do anything without a cup of coffee in the morning. Sometimes even two cups. But afterwards I believe in setting the day correctly. Like our bedtime rituals, it’s just as important to have one in the morning. It sets the tone for the day and manifests that magic.

Morning rituals are different for everyone and can change with how much you have to do that day. But one this is clear, have one. You’ll feel so much more centered and ready to take on your day. Take what you like from mine, adjust it, edit it, add to it and share yours on Instagram! #C&PCMornings

I love to rise as close to the sun as possible and lay in bed for a few moments enjoying the warmth, comfort and awesomeness of my bed. Then I hit the coffee pot. As I sip my first cup of java I’ll check emails, scroll Pinterest and Instagram or I’ll head right into meditation. I enjoy a twenty minute session using the Headspace app while my coffee cools to a drinkable temperature.

Then the really good stuff, after meditating I pull a card for the day. I am in love with images in the Wild Unknown deck. I have a little glitter journal in my space and I’ll write the date, the card, a little summary on it in sparkly gel pen. Then I’ll write five things I’m grateful for.

The difference between happy people and unhappy people is their level of gratitude.

Then I’ll set three intensions for the day. Not things like “oh do the laundry and wash the dishes” but “Today will be successful.” or “Today I will be happy” Doing this just really sets the tone for the day and starts you off on a calm positive note.

I’m excited to hear what everyone else’s morning magic is!

What to Wear on Valentine’s Day

Planning what to wear is always a fun excitement that screams for loving attention and Valentines day really lays on the pressure to have the perfect look. Luckily I come prepared and have gathered a few looks that fit the bill.

For Brunch Out With The Girls

You can’t go wrong with a stylish wrap dress. The silhouette is flattering on everyone and because of the slight gathering you won’t look full if you have one too many mimosas! I love DVF for a good classic staple piece.

For A Sunny Day Picnic

Nothing is sweeter at a picnic than a sassy t-shirt and high waisted shorts. Show off you figure, look cute, and enjoy some good food!

For the Road-trip

Nothing bonds us more than a good adventure and a fun road trip. Channel your inner love goddess with adorable heart shaped sunnies. I personally love the Wildfox Lolita ones! Load up on coconut water, pretzel chips and slim jims. And don’t forget the polaroid!

For Spending the Day in Bed

Gather the takeout menus, get some champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries for the ultimate campout in your own bed. Nothing is better than getting lost in time with you’re loved one. Turn off the cellphones and disconnect from the world till Monday morning.

For a Date Night

It’s on the inside what counts. That’s what they said right? Make sure when that dress slips off you’re ready to go with a sexy getup that makes you feel confident and gets him hot. I’m in love with Dita’s collection, the perfect blend of elegant seduction.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s day loves!

Going Under

Being hypnotized is not like all the cartoons we saw growing up. No one snapped their fingers to make someone cluck like a chicken. Instead it’s more like a guided very deep meditation so you can fully focus on what’s going on inside. The experience was eye opening.

I participated in a group exercise which is quite better because everyone’s energy acts as a support for everyone else, magnifying the experience and the results. We gathered in a semi circle on cushions, matts and festive blankets and then we got down to work. One by one we went and shared who we were and what fear was holding us back from living our ideal life. The vulnerability that these women shared was breath taking, it takes a lot to get up and say I’m terrified of this or that and we did it. By also naming the problem it really helped us show how ridiculous this idea was, that the ego was letting us stop ourselves from being happy, successful, fruitful. It also helped us see the other side of the issue and what we could be if our ego wasn’t standing in our way.

The guide then had us all lay down on the matts and cover our eyes with a black eye mask. Then it began. It was like falling into a deep sleep but you were still awake, aware but you knew you were asleep. It was as if you were wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket of light that was comforting you in this journey. She’d snap her fingers and we’d fall in more deeply into the meditation. There we could ask for help, identify what started this giant issue, and we told it to back off. We rewrote the neural path that would come into play so hopefully instead of stopping in the future we could push forward and succeed.

She brought us back and snapped her fingers, asking us to sit up. Coming out of the meditation was eye opening, you could feel the energy, see everything clearly. Now if only I could stop clucking like a chicken.
